Quartzite

Originally referred as sandstone, quartzite is a hard, metamorphic rock. By applying thorough heating and pressure in terms of tectonic compression within orogenic belts, sandstone is transformed into quartzite. Due to the presence of varying quantities of iron oxide, its color varies from pink to red otherwise pure form of quartzite ranges from white to grey. It is highly resistant to chemical weathering and often forms ridges and resistant hilltops.
